Experience
Richard first came to Le Loop in 2019 as a Grand Looper. He’s since ridden a shorter Loop in 2022 and is returning as a Grand Looper in 2025.
Grand Looper, Haute Route, LeJog, L'Etape, Maratona, Mallorca 312 and multiple triathlons for age group Team GB. Love cycling anywhere with beautiful views. I took up cycling in 2008 when someone invited me to the alps. Being totally naïve and unprepared I bought a bike, went up Box Hill a couple of times and made my way there. My first climb was Alpe D’Huez! What a shock to the system but I was hooked (and broken on that day!). I have a “all in” nature so then proceeded to cycle anywhere and everywhere. I also did the same with triathlon, entering an Ironman on a whim and I loved it. Ended up racing quite a lot for Team GB and doing a few euro and world champs across the world. I am even now a triathlon coach!

Words of Wisdom
If you are like me: you enjoy the riding, the companionship and yes, the suffering then at some point you need to think bigger than one day events which tend to be hectic, condensed and all a little rushed. This is where Le Loop comes in and there are two key elements to why Le Loop is as good as it is and why riders like me keep coming back!
- It’s for an amazing cause – one that you may have been directly of indirectly affected by. You hear of the term “the degrees of separation”. With the WWMT helping lots of local charities it would be safe to assume that many of you will not be far removed from someone that the WWMT has helped. I am truly inspired by everyone that is associated with the charity and the people that they help.
- It’s all about the rider. From the moment you arrive for your first stage to that final loop (around the Arc de Triomphe if you’re there for stage 21 – epic!), you are enveloped in the world of cycling. Everything is considered so that you as the rider can just pedal. Hotels, feed stops, mechanics – everything! Most of the riding is at a pace where you can chat, get to know people and share experiences. Add some real challenges to the mix: iconic climbs and scenery and it is perfect for cyclists who want a bit more than a medal and a t-shirt at the end of a day. I also underestimated how good it would be for me mentally to remove myself from daily worries for a few days/weeks and simply be on my bike. I felt physically exhausted but mentally wiped clean by the end!
Where are you now?
I am now about to do my second Grand Loop and I can’t wait to be out there, soaking it all in and enjoying the views!
