Experience
For my first tour, at age 20, I certainly wasn’t what you might consider a serious cyclist. I’ve enjoyed cycling pretty much my whole life. Getting out on the bike with my dad every now and then as it was a huge passion of his and a lovely way for us to carve out some time to spend together. I only did 3 days my first year as that seemed daunting enough and it certainly was quite the challenge but you really settle into it much quicker than I thought possible. I’m coming back for my third year now and excited to be stepping up to a half loop this year, it might finally be time to take the training a little more seriously
I'd say just dive in, sign yourself up and it will be all the motivation you need to get out on the bike and start taking your training more seriously. The whole experience is truly amazing, the team behind the scenes just make it the trip as smooth and effortless as riding Tour de France stages can be. You meet some really amazing people from all sorts of careers with some really inspiring stories, and getting to meet some of the representatives for the charity really makes you realise what great change you can help be a part of with all the fundraising you do. Not to mention the riding itself, the views you get to experience are truly breathtaking, showing you some of the most beautiful places Europe has to offer; and the feeling of doing it all on your own steam is really something else.
Where are you now?
I’m just finishing up my final year at university, the deadlines are stacking up and I’m starting to feel the ground rush of the end of university life so it’s really nice to have something to train for and give me something to look forward to. I’ve started to really kick myself into gear (if you’ll pardon the pun), stepping up the training as I want to make the trip as enjoyable as I can this year.
