Travel Advice 2019

You need to arrange and pay for your own travel to your first hotel and back from your last hotel (hotel list is here).

Important: Please arrive at your hotel no later than 7pm for the full briefing.

SNCF is useful for all train journeys in France.

If you’d like to find other riders travelling on the same dates, please use the Strava Club page and create a thread, using the travel destination name for your title for outbound transfers, and the departure town for any return transfers (don’t use the Loop name, because several Loops arrive/depart on the same days). It’s worth doing outbound and return as 2 separate threads.

If your out/return travel is the same as another Loop, you’ll find details in the Loop information boxes below. The following is just for the bespoke BellaVelo Loops…

Travel To: Nancy. Tues 2nd July

Nancy is only 2hrs by train from Paris.

If you take the Eurostar to Paris, you can walk (5 mins) from the Gare du Nord to the Gare de l’Est and take a train from there to Nancy. But if you fly in to Paris CDG airport, you can take a train direct from the airport TGV station (with one change at ‘Lorraine TGV’) and arrive in Nancy without passing through Paris centre.

See above for train website link.

Return from: Belfort. Mon 8th July. Fri 5th July.

Departing from Belfort (where we’ll sleep the night after the Planche des Belles Filles finish), you have a few options…

By train, Belfort has a station, but there is also a TGV station called ‘Montbelliard TGV’ 12km from the centre of Belfort with quicker connections. The fastest trains take 2hrs 15 from Montbelliard to Paris Gare de Lyon. There are many other variations from both stations, going to both Paris centre (for Eurostar connections) or Paris Airport ‘CDG TGV’ (for flight connections).

See above for train website link.

A better option may be a shared taxi (or public bus) from Belfort to Basl Airport, which is 45 minutes drive and connects with several Easyjet flight options to London.

Return From: Chalon sur Saone. Sat 6th July

Chalon sur Saone has a station with frequent connections to Lyon (1hr20). Once in Lyon, there are airport shuttle buses from town to the airport.

Alternatively, the train from Chalon to Paris is under 3hrs (to the Gare de Lyon) so lunch in Paris (!!) and changing to a Eurostar train or later flight is also possible.

*Our hotel is 2.5kms from the train station: an easy taxi ride

Return from: St Flour. Mon 8th July

After the stage finish in Brioude, you’ll sleep in St Flour which has a train station but connections are infrequent and often slow. It might be easier to fly from Clermont Ferrand airport (Ryanair) or Lyon airport (lots of options) and share a taxi/shuttle.

http://www.taxi-bonifacie.fr/ in St Flour has a minibus and can be contacted by email.
